چکیده

Mazanec, K. (J. E. Purkyne University, Brno, Czechoslovakia), M. Kocur, and T. Martinec. Electron microscopy of ultrathin sections of Sporosarcina ureae. J. Bacteriol. 90:808-816. 1965.-Ultrathin sections of Sporosarcina ureae cells were studied by means of electron microscopy. The cell wall consists of several layers and is 340 A thick. The cytoplasm is of globular structure and includes ribosomelike structures, occasional mesosomes, and inclusions not precisely identifiable. The nuclear area has various shapes and is formed by filaments 10 to 20 A thick which proceed in various directions. Cell division occurs similarly to that of sarcinate. Both synchronic and asynchronic cell division was observed. The spores of S. ureae consist of an outer coat having several layers, a cortex, a spore wall, and cytoplasm. The results of the present investigation substantiate our previous suggestion that S. ureae should be transferred from the family Micrococcaceae to the family Bacillaceae.

Surface arrays on the wall of Sporosarcina ureae.

Thin sections of the cell wall of Sporosarcina ureae revealed two structurally distinct layers: a continuous amorphous zone, approximately 15 nm thick, which was adjacent to the plasma membrane, and an overlying periodic zone, approximately 16 nm thick. Sequential Triton X-100 and lysozyme treatment of isolated walls produced small fragments of the outer regular structure which allowed high-res...

Novel phenylalanine dehydrogenases from Sporosarcina ureae and Bacillus sphaericus. Purification and characterization.

NAD+-dependent phenylalanine dehydrogenases were purified 1,500- and 1,600-fold, and crystallized from Sporosarcina ureae SCRC-R04 and Bacillus sphaericus SCRC-R79a, respectively. The purified enzymes were homogeneous as judged by disc gel electrophoresis. The enzyme from S. ureae has a molecular weight of 305,000, while that of B. sphaericus has a molecular weight of 340,000. Each is probably ...

Structure of the regular surface layer of Sporosarcina ureae.

Optical diffraction and computer image processing of electron micrographs were employed to analyze the structure of the regular surface layer of Sporosarcina ureae at high resolution. Negatively stained preparations of regular surface layer fragments showed two types of tetragonal pattern, each having p4 symmetry in projection with a = 12.8 nm. Although the two patterns differed greatly in over...

Truncation Derivatives of the S-Layer Protein of Sporosarcina ureae ATCC 13881 (SslA): Towards Elucidation of the Protein Domain Responsible for Self-Assembly.

The cell surface of Sporosarcina ureae ATCC 13881 is covered by an S-layer (SslA) consisting of identical protein subunits that assemble into lattices exhibiting square symmetry. In this work the self-assembly properties of the recombinant SslA were characterised with an emphasis on the identification of protein regions responsible for self-assembly. To this end, recombinant mature SslA (aa 31-...
